Research interests
1. Neighbouring group participation. The use of neighbouring group participation of acyloxy, hydroxy and amino groups during
solvolysis for determination of configuration of
16-hydroxymethyl-17-hydroxy steroids and for preparation of heterocyclic steroid compounds.
2. Synthesis of heterocyclic steroid compounds. On alkaline methanolysis of cis-16-p-tolyl-sulfonyloxymethyl-l7-hydroxysteroids, the a- and b-oxetanes condensed to the D ring in the sterane skeleton were formed, while the trans-isomers yield a fragmented product. This synthons are useful starting materials for ring expansion reactions and for Diels-Alder reaction to produce biologically active heterocyclic steroid compounds.
