Current version: pHCali 1.32a-20070323 Purpose: The pHCali program makes possible to calibrate pH-metric instruments and to determine formation constants of weak acids from pH-metric measurements. Documentation: The manuals can be downloaded independently from the author's web site. Four manuals are possible: - pHCalieo.pdf is the English user's guide optimized for online reading, - pHCaliep.pdf is the English user's guide optimized for printing, - pHCaliho.pdf is the Hungarian user's guide optimized for online reading and - pHCalihp.pdf is the Hungarian user's guide optimized for printing. License: Practically freeware. In detail, read the manuals. Installation under DOS and Windows: - Make a directory for the files to be installed. - Unzip the appropriate file (wphcali.zip or dphcali.zip) into the desired directory. Either unzip.exe wphcali.zip (or unzip.exe dphcali.zip), alternatively pkunzip.exe wphcali.zip (or pkunzip.exe dphcali.zip) commands or any appropriate graphical programs (e.g. WiZ, WinZip, WinRAR) can be used. - After the installaion, the wphcali.zip (or dphcali.zip) file can safely be deleted. For more information, read the manuals. Installation under Linux (Note that the program is still in experimental stage under Linux. Assistance of the superuser might be required. See the manual for the recent experience.): - Make a directory (preferably within your home directory) for the files to be installed. - Make the desired directory to the current one and copy the lphcali.tgz file into it. - Untar lphcali.tgz into the desired directory with the tar -xzf lphcali.tgz command. - After the installation, the lphcali.tgz file can safely be deleted. - More executables can be found in the package. The statically linked executables (the "phcalit" and "phcalix" files) work under any i386-combatible Linux distribution but they are huge. They may removed if the much smaller dynamically linked ones ("phcalit.shared" and "phcalix.shared") work. The latter executables, however, depend on many shared libraries. If finding these libraries are not straightforeward, the statically linked executables are recommended. If more users want to use pHCali, it is worth to put the executables into the /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin directory but it requires superuser rights. Developing policy: Bug reports, questions, suggestions or requests are welcome through email. Two procedures will be applied: - In case of a bug report the authors try to fix it as soon as possible. The bug report must include the description of the problem, the version of pHCali and (if necessary) the corresponding data file(s). Also, the questions will be answered as soon as the authors can do it. - In cases of suggestions or requests, some delay will likely happen. If more users ask the same thing, the development will be faster.
