Metal surfaces became
smooth and mirror-like during their anodic dissolution in highly acidic and
viscous media. We investigated this process with various techniques. The
structure of the metal|solution interface, and its
role in the electropolishing was studied.
Adsorption and
electrochemical reactivity of redox proteins (cytochrome
c) and enzymes (glucose-oxidase) were investigated on
various electrode surfaces.
Electrochemical
transformation of organic compounds, and the formation and possible application
of conducting polymers were studied.
The allotrop
versions of carbon, the fullerenes were studied in solid phase with aqueous
electrolytes. Various fullerides, containing
different counter ions, were produced, and their physical, electrochemical, and
photoelectrochemical properties were investigated.
Various thio-amine
compounds were adsorbed to gold surfaces, and electroactive
quinon units were attached to these sublayers. By diamine compounds,
as linkers, we could build molecular wires containing up to five-six quinone molecules in them.
